HORSE SPEAKS THE TRUTH
Several highly reputable sources confirm 'OUR' AMERICAN HORSE PETS/COMPANIONS and WILD HORSES ARE BEING STOLEN at between 45 - 55 percent with the doubled efforts of these Horse Plants. They are moving them faster across CANADIAN and MEXICAN BORDERS. We know, based on facts, 30,000 are shipped up to Canada yet 10,000 - 20,000 are imported back to the USA to avoid detection that these horses are STOLEN. This is being done by an underground horse pipeline via horse rustlers who can move them across the borders at certain areas which are not guarded by border patrols as they do not have the manpower to deal with this. Our Wild Horses do not carry RFID locator chips and brand marks. Many stolen horse pets simply have the locator chips removed along with the their horse hairs being dyed and brands made indistinguishable.

UPDATE NEWS ON THE SAVED 25 by LONGMEADOW RESCUE RANCH OF MISSOURI: WHO WILL BE A HORSE HERO and SPONSOR?

After conferencing with a private source yesterday afternoon this is what we now know:
One gentleman owns all twenty five horses that were scheduled to be slaughtered. His insurance company stepped in and paid him for damages to his socalled property of the 42 horses and 25 now still alive. The most critical will be determined if they survive by Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this upcoming week. Generally, there is a two week window of survival when horses are critcally injured. If Willie, Darla, Mama, and Princess make it past the critical stage by end of next week, they will likely survive their injuries and pneumonia complications. Currently they are at equine medical hospitals in intensive care. Only eight currently are with the ranch and the other 13 are in foster care recovering.
Regarding the ongoing battle for the Humane Society of Missouri, they are trying to work out a legal settlement with the owner's insurance company. There are other issues involved such as the over $50,000.00 in medical care incurred for these SAVED 25 as well as disaster highway cleanup and euthanization expenses paid by the Humane Society. Hopefully a deal can be worked out and they will gain full custody of these horses so they can eventually start a full rehabilitation program.
As far as donations and sponsoring goes, when one horse becomes adopted, then any charitable funds for that horse will be donated to another still needing care to cover veterinary costs and regular care. More updates will be available several times throughout the weeks ahead at:

First - the killer buyers were there - they were pointed out to her - but between Stephanie and other legit buyers, the killer buyers were consistently outbid ALL DAY and they have already LEFT WITHOUT BUYING ANY of the horses - THEY DID NOT GET A SINGLE ONE. They are no longer at the sale at this point.

Second - Steph said she was able to get every one of the horses that the FOB's were the most concerned about - and she is satisfied that the others that she did not get that we were concerned about, all went to legit good homes. In particular, the Belgian draft horse, who turned out to be very gentle and ridable, went to a family with kids.

Third - she has met Cloud and says he is a real sweetie. FYI - for those who didn't follow this part of the story earlier, Cloud, a 17 y.o. Appaloosa gelding in apparent good shape - had been bought by the killer buyers at a previous auction but was left behind because there was no room for him on the slaughter-house-bound truck. (!) Stephanie's local friend alerted her to this, and Steph arranged to buy him before the sale started. (You can see pics of Cloud at TWF; and Ernie already has a Cloud Tee-Shirt ready to go.)

Finally - she is not done yet - but at this point, including Cloud, MHR had bought six (6) horses - 2 of whom are pregnant - so eventually this means EIGHT horses in all after the babies are born. She DID GET THE OLD PREGNANT MARE (lot 42, 25 y.o. in foal); also DID GET the YOUNGER PREGNANT MARE (lot 31, 4 y.o.) with an unnumbered foal at her side [this is the 3-package deal we wanted her to get]. She also got an additional weanling filly who was not on the catalog list.

The other main reason is using the bolt gun is “ illegal and directly violates the Humane Slaughterhouse Act of 1958. Dr. Lester Friedlander, DVM and former Chief USDA Inspector and the Humane Farming Association Video (http://www.manesandtailsorganization.org/media.html and http://www.themodernreligion.com/misc/an/an_slaughter.htm ) both verify that the captive bolt gun causes extreme pain. In a study conducted at Hanover University, EEG and ECG recordings were taken on all animals to measure brain and heart conditions during course of slaughtering and stunning. Readings showed, that although the animals were apparently unconscious (equines not long though even with repeated stuns), … they were in severe pain immediately after stunning. Horses regain consciousness after approximately 30 seconds after captive bolt is applied. Due to inherent differences in skulls between bovines and equines, each species reacts to the captive bolt differently. Equine brains set back further than bovines… equines regain consciousness (even after repeated stuns) and are not insensed to pain (ie. are in severe pain) shortly after shackled and hoisted. Therefore, THEY ARE VERY MUCH AWARE OF BEING BUTCHERED ALIVE!”

FACT 7: WHY TRANSPORTING SLAUGHTER -BOUND HORSES PUTS THE REST OF THE HORSE POPULATION AT RISK
"Transportation of slaughter-bound horses puts the health of the general horse population aat risk because a "Coggins" Certificate is required to transport a horse to slaughter. Therefore, horses with Equine Infectious Anemia can be transported and held near other horses risking the rapid spread of infection. The disease is carried by horseflies. There is no vaccine for this disease, once a horse contracts it and there is no recovery.
It should also be noted that the care being taken to avoid the feeding of "downed cattle" to ruminants DOES NOT CARRY OVER TO HORSES. The protein from animals suspected of bovine spongiform encephalopathy can be processed into feed and supplements given to horses. It should also be noted that protein derived from horses can then be used in feed processed for cattle. Horsemeat is exported as a high-priced delicacy for human consumption. The Europeon Union has strict laws in place controlling the substances given to horses intended for slaughter. I read in our paper that a lot of the Agriculture guys are against this bill because they're afraid that "we" will attack the cattle industry next.
While I feel like cattle certainly deserve a humane death, I do not think of cattle as my companion or friend. They are also listed as food animals. Horses are not.
Would it help to address this issue with the senators?

I say what you said, i.e., that unlike cattle and hogs, horses are NOT raised for slaughter, they are raised as companion animals. That makes sending them to slaughter a betrayal of trust. I also differentiate them from cattle by saying that unlike cattle, which are generally of uniform size, horses come in all different sizes, which makes a "humane" slaughter mechanism nearly impossible, particularly when you consider the length of a horse's neck. Simply put, that long neck makes it much less likely that the "shot" mechanism will work, because there is a much larger chance that it will miss its target.
I'm really sorry because that sounds horrible, but because it's a concern for the agriculture people, I've included that information to show the difference between animals that are raised strictly for slaughter, and horses.

From: CLE - Cattle shutes are not designed and never were meant for horses which have much longer necks as was the captive bolt gun. Ask yourselves this question:
Would any member of the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) or the AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association) or the AHC (American Horse Council) "humanely euthanize" their own horse companions using a captive bolt gun?

Having said that I decided to take a different tact. I have just sent off emails to both on the Anti-Slaughter Bill, but using the 70% public support figure in conjunction with the 1.2 million current Barbaro fund figure, and the $11,000+ figure directly related to supporting Dr. Richardson, i.e. an individual truly caring about not just Barbaro but horses period.
Maybe we can wake up some of these politicians to the possibly funding opportunities within the masses....

We have a chance here folks. Let's continue fighting. Thought the point about some horse rescue operations being prohibited by law from advertising/lobbying is a good point. Don't waste your energy and efforts responding to opponents. That is just what they want you to do.
